Pure Detroit Public Weekend Tours

The following tours start at our Pure Detroit shop located inside the Guardian Building.

Pure Detroit’s Guardian Building Tour -- FREE

Pure Detroit invites you to tour the building that became known as the city’s Cathedral of Finance. Beginning in the building’s grand banking lobby, you will learn the details surrounding the building’s creations, including the banking titans, stone workers, artists, and architects involved. The tour will include discussions in the banking area as well as in the main entrance way. See firsthand the intricate design and exquisite detail of Rowland's artistic achievement, including works by muralist Erza Winter, tile installations by Pewabic's Mary Chase Stratton and sculpture by Corrado Parducci. The tour is capped with a trip to the grand ballroom on the building’s 32nd floor. -The tour is free and open to the public of all ages.

-The tour begins at our Pure Detroit shop located at the main banking lobby of the building.

-Parking is readily available at surrounding lots, garages, as well as on the street (metered parking).

-Sign up is available the day of inside the Pure Detroit shop upon arrival. No RSVP is required. -The tour is approx. 60 minutes long.

-Photography is allowed.

-The tour is handicap accessible.

Detroit has been an important economic, political, and cultural center for more than 300 years. Pure Detroit’s Origins tour takes you back to a time when Detroit was a budding trading and military post. Beginning at the Guardian Building, this tour will take you back in time to the year 1701, the year that the first European settlers landed on the city’s riverbank. The tour will cover about 100 years of stories and 1 mile on foot over 90 minutes. -This tour has a $5 flat fee and is open to all ages. -The tour begins at our Pure Detroit shop located inside the Guardian Building on the promenade level.

-Sign up is available inside the Pure Detroit shop upon arrival. No RSVP is required.

-The tour will be conducted by historic preservationist and planner Michael Boettcher.

-Photography is allowed.

Think you know Woodward Avenue? The road has become synonymous with the American automotive scene but did you know that Woodward was an important thoroughfare long before Detroit’s automotive titans first developed their horseless carriages. Our expert guide will lead you from the Guardian Building through Campus Martius and into Grand Circus Park. You will learn how the Woodward corridor grew 1880s to the mid-20th century. Witness the changes in architecture, design tastes and building uses over the years. In addition, you will see the building where Pure Detroit first opened their doors nearly 20 years ago.

-This tour has a $5 flat fee and is open to all ages. -The tour begins at our Pure Detroit shop located inside the Guardian Building on the promenade level. -Sign up is available inside the Pure Detroit shop upon arrival. No RSVP is required. -The tour will be conducted by historic preservationist and planner Michael Boettcher. -Photography is allowed. -Tour will last about 60-75 minutes.

Pure Detroit's Corrado Parducci Tour - $5
Names like Albert Kahn and Wirt Rowland may be familiar to fans of Detroit’s distinct architecture but there is a lesser known figure responsible for the beauty of some of the city’s most beautiful building exteriors. The Italian born artist, Corrado Parducci worked on nearly 300 buildings around the Detroit area and formulated a look that combined ancient and modern design ideals. In his time, he was known as one of the world’s premier architectural sculptors but in more recent years his work was often overlooked. Join Pure Detroit on a 90-minute walk around the city’s downtown area and explore over several of his sumptuous designs which were commissioned by noted architects.

Pure Detroit's Downtown Skyscraper Tour - $5 The late 19th and early 20th Century were a boom time in Detroit. As industrial money poured into town, designers, architects, and real estate moguls moved into the city looking to add their own mark to the city’s rapidly expanding skyline. Join Pure Detroit on a 90-minute tour in which you will explore the city’s skyscraper history. Aside from Detroit’s pre-depression skyscrapers you will also learn the details behind the city’s turn towards modernism following WWII, and the building that is yet to come. -The tour begins at our Pure Detroit shop located in the Guardian Building on the promenade level. -This tour is $5 for admission & open to the public of all ages.
